| ABSTRACT This study aims at evaluating the effects of electrolytes, glucose and cortisol levels over heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability (HRV) in healthy newborn calves. Seventeen healthy Holstein calves were evaluated during their first month of life, and the plasma concentrations of glucose, cortisol, calcium, magnesium, inorganic phosphorus, sodium and potassium were analyzed. HRV indexes were determined in the time and frequency domains through the analysis of neonatal electrocardiogram recordings. In the first day, low blood levels of phosphorus presented a strong correlation with the HR and the increased high-frequency components of HRV. | A coloração pela prata das regiões organizadoras de nucléolos (NORs) é caracterizada por marcar proteínas ligadas ao ácido ribonucleico ribossômico, avaliando a proliferação em células normais ou neoplásicas. Objetivou-se estudar, em testículos de ovinos obtidos em matadouro, a validade do uso da técnica de coloração pela prata (AgNOR) na identificação das regiões organizadoras de nucléolo (NORs) em células saudáveis da linhagem espermatogênica. | RESUMO O conhecimento do desenvolvimento mamário de um rebanho leiteiro é fundamental, pois relaciona-se à eficiência produtiva. Objetivou-se avaliar a associação dos parâmetros térmicos mamários com concentrações hormonais de búfalas em distintos estágios fisiológicos. Foram utilizadas 24 búfalas mestiças Murrah, em quatro grupos (n= 6): grupo 1 (bezerras), grupo 2 (novilhas), grupo 3 (gestantes) e grupo 4 (lactantes). | ABSTRACT The present study investigated the hormonal profile and expression of prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α), oxytocin and estrogen receptors in uterine tissues of postpartum cows treated with cloprostenol. | ABSTRACT The aim was to study pregnant cervus in captivity, to obtain body morphometric data, serum progesterone concentrations, and pH of the vagina. Females of cervus (Cervus unicolor), (n=8) between 2 and 3 years old were used in November during breeding season. | ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate newborn foals stress in the first 48 hours of life. Heart rate (HR), heart rate variability (HRV) and serum cortisol concentrations, blood glucose, and lactate were determined in foals (n = 20, Paint Horse). Cortisol concentrations decreased significantly between four and 48 hours, with the highest concentration at 4 hours after birth. Positive correlations between cortisol and lactate occurred between 12 and 16 hours. And there was a negative correlation between cortisol and lactate 4 hours after birth. | Avaliaram-se os efeitos da progesterona (P4) sobre o crescimento folicular e na endocrinologia reprodutiva em ovelhas Bergamácia. Quatorze ovelhas sincronizadas com prostaglandinas (PGF2alfa ) foram distribuídas em dois grupos (n=7/grupo): grupo-controle e grupo tratado com progesterona (CIDR) depois da ovulação (dia zero). | Callithrix jacchus is a neotropical primate adaptable in captivity. Colonies can be easily established in a short time and at low cost compared to other species of larger primates, which are normally used in laboratory. Because they are phylogenetically similar to humans in situations that induce anxiety, these small primates are increasingly being used in research involving the stress response. Wild animals in captivity are subjected to a series of stressful events that depending on the duration and intensity can modify the organic homeostasis. Observed in this study, serious problems occurred with the formation in fetal offspring of Callithrix jacchus kept in an environment with a high degree of stress. |

| The objective of the study was to evaluate body growth and age at onset of puberty on lambs fed two specific diets for low and high growth rates. A herd of 20 Brazilian Bergamasca lambs was divided in two groups (n= 10) and kept confined throughout the experimental period, two animals of the same treatment/pen. Two phases were established: Phase 1, from 90 days of age until the onset of puberty; and Phase 2, from puberty onset up to 1 year old. | Estudou-se a influência das quatro estações do ano nas características do sêmen e nas concentrações de testosterona e cortisol em touros. Cinco touros Nelore e cinco Simental entre 48 e 72 meses de idade, criados extensivamente, foram avaliados andrologicamente por meio de exames físicos das características morfológicas do sêmen e das concentrações séricas de testosterona e cortisol. | Objetivou-se estudar a morfometria corpórea, as características do sêmen, o perfil proteico do plasma seminal em SDS-PAGE e a concentração sérica de testosterona em cervos-sambar (Cervus unicolor), criados em cativeiro, na estação reprodutiva da primavera. | O presente estudo objetivou avaliar os efeitos da imunização ativa contra proteínas do líquido folicular suíno sobre a taxa de ovulação, duração do ciclo estral e concentração plasmática de progesterona em vacas e novilhas da raça Limousin. Realizaram-se duas imunizações com 15 dias de intervalo, aplicando-se um imunógeno composto do conteúdo protéico de 25ml de fluido folicular suíno adicionados de 1ml de gel de hidróxido de alumínio, via subcutânea.
